Last Dance: Panas seniors win in final home game, earn spot in AA semifinals

After over 100 career victories and two Gold Balls (and counting), the Walter Panas girls walked off their home court for the final time on Thursday.

The top-seeded Panthers beat No. 9 Nyack, 69-54, in the Section 1 Class AA quarterfinals, earning a spot at the Westchester County Center in search of their third straight Gold Ball.

Sofia Tavarez scored 20 points and Cadence Nicholas had 19 in the win. The duo, which has combined for over 3,500 career points in five seasons starters, won their 101st career game together.

Panas will take on fourth seed Mahopac in the semifinals on Tuesday at 6:30 pm. Rye and Tappan Zee will meet in the other semifinal at 3 pm, with the Section 1 championship scheduled for Saturday, March 8 at the County Center.
