Defending Section 1 champion North Rockland continued its torrid 2024 season. They won four more times this week to improve to 11-0 on the season and sit atop the Class AAA Bracketology standings.
STANDINGS: Section 1 Class AAA Softball – North Rockland well ahead in top spot
The Red Raiders highlighted the week by beating Rockland rivals Tappan Zee on Saturday before a one-run win over Albertus Magnus on Tuesday.
Saturday’s win over Tappan Zee was part of the Rockland Challenge Day event. Ava Jacobs homered and Tara Murphy drove in two runs while also pitching a complete game with four strikeouts.
Against Albertus Magnus, Murphy struck out nine to earn the 7-6 victory. In addition to her stellar play in left field (above), Mia Valverde had a two-run triple and Ashlee Begbie had two hits and two RBI.
Maddie Burns picked up her first varsity win in Wednesday’s 12-0 win over Suffern while Jacobs went 4 for 4 with a homer, two doubles and three RBI. Kerry Finnerty and Addy Bohlander each drove in two runs.
North Rockland continued the streak with a 5-3 win against Clarkstown South. Murphy belted two home runs with three RBI and struck out 10 in a complete game effort.
Next up for North Rockland is Saturday’s annual Wounded Warrior Project Challenge against Warwick Valley High School, which is the host this year. North Rockland and Warwick will compete in all sports in effort to raise money.
