Westlake, Rye Neck play to 1-1 draw in boys soccer

Two teams jockeying for position in the playoff hunt had to settle for a draw in their showdown on Wednesday night.

Westlake and Rye Neck finished 1-1 in Thornwood, ending Rye Neck’s four-game winning streak while the Wildcats remained unbeaten in eight contests.

Colin Lyden had the goal for Westlake (5-0-2), scoring on an assist from Cian Kelly. Jozsef Varadi made seven saves for Westlake.

Rocco Ruscitto had the lone goal for Rye Neck, converting a feed from Will Barrios. Thomas Schmuck made five saves for the Panthers, who are currently No. 3 in the Section 1 Class B Bracketology standings entering Saturday’s matchup with Pleasantville.

Westlake, which No. 4 in Class A, had recorded five straight victories entering Wednesday’s contest, including four clean sheets. The Wildcats, who had outscored opponents 26-5 this season, next play reigning Section 1 champion Byram HIlls (7-0-2) on Saturday at 6 pm.
