Tappan Zee finally claims Section title with early Jacobs' score

Following heartbreaking losses in the the 2022 Section finals and 2023 semifinals the past two seasons, the Tappan Zee boys soccer team was on a mission to finish the job in 2024. The Dutchmen went into yesterday’s Class AA final against No. 6 Fox Lane on a 13 game winning streak and looked like the clear favorite to bring home the gold ball.

Fox Lane, however took down No. 2 seed Peekskill and No. 3 seed Greeley on their way to the title game and was carrying a certain “Team of Destiny” vibe.

Tappan Zee opened the game hot and looked like this might be a romp, as Rockland County all time leading scorer Brady Jacobs netted a goal less than a minute into the match. Despite the early score, this one stayed tight the whole way with the Foxes holding the Dutchmen scoreless for the remaining 79 minutes on incredible net play by GK Eli Daglio.

Tappan Zee moves onto the NYSPHSAA Tournament where they receive a bye to play the winner of Section 8’s Garden City and Section 11’s Comsewogue at Byram Hills on Saturday at 1pm.
