Clarkstown North claims Superintendent's Cup over South

Michael Goodman saved his best performance of the season for Clarkstown North’s biggest game. And the Rams head down the stretch of the baseball season as one of Section 1’s hottest teams.

North held off Clarkstown South, 3-1, on Sunday night at Clover Stadium to capture the Superintendent’s Cup over its district rival. Goodman pitched six stellar innings for the win as the Rams edged out South in points in the Clarkstown annual program-wide event.

It was the fourth straight win over Clarkstown North, which evened its record at 6-6 on the season, putting them in the hunt for a home playoff game in Class AA Bracketology.

The win was the first of the year for Goodman, a Delaware baseball commit. The 6-foot right-hander allowed just one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts before Jayson Espinal worked a scoreless seventh for the save.

Connor Cullen had three hits and an RBI. LJ Macias hit an RBI triple to break a 1-1 tie in the fifth and pinch-hitter Brendan “Bubba” Epstein had a sac-fly in the sixth.

Jake Grownowski had an RBI double in the fifth for Clarkstown South’s (5-9) lone run, which came just after a 25-minute rain delay. Kyle Sperring pitched six strong innings for South in the loss.

The varsity’s victory was worth two points, which combined with the modified team’s win, gave Clarkstown North a 3-2 edge over South, which won the freshmen and JV games. South JV won 18-1 on Sunday at Clover Stadium, which was streamed on LocalLive here.
