The only thing on the mind of Fox Lane entering Tuesday’s Class AA baseball semifinal was revenge.
The second-seeded Foxes were out to avenge an early season loss to Mahopac – and get back to the Section 1 championship they felt slipped through their fingers last season.
Fox Lane took a giant step in that direction with a commanding 7-2 win over the Wolfpac in the Section 1 semifinals at home. The winners bracket victory put the Foxes into Saturday’s Class AA championship game and dropped Mahopac into an Elimination Game on Wednesday against Yorktown. Fox Lane will take on that winner at 4 pm at Purchase College, needing only one win for a title.

In Fox Lane’s win on Tuesday, the Foxes came out firing early. After Jackson Caroll set down Mahopac in order in the first, Fox Lane struck off Mahopac ace Nick Mascarelli with a Andrew Diaz leadoff double. Will Rudolph drove him in with an RBI groundout.
The WolfPac responded in the second on a Jack Moller single and a Mascarelli walk. Mahopac capitalized off some rare Fox Lane defensive miscues and scored a run on an error to tie it 1-1.
In the bottom of the second, the Foxes worked some magic on the base paths as John Czyrnek stole second after reaching on a single. Cooper Furst stole home and put Fox Lane up 2-1. Diaz worked a walk and Logan Mammola got hit by a pitch to load the bases for Will Rudolph, who worked a bases-loaded walk.
Mahopac cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fourth. Lichtenberg was hit by a pitch and Moller reached on an error. Nick Mascarelli lined an RBI single to right. The Wolfpac stranded the other runners on base. From there, Jackson Caroll dominated.
The sophomore only allowed one more baserunner the rest of the game. His final line: 7 innings, 3 hits, 2 earned runs, one walk and eight strikeouts.
“It was just locating my pitches and trusting my defense behind me,” Caroll said.
He can also thank his team’s bats for coming alive in the bottom of the fifth to break the game open. Thanks to some timely hitting by Logan Provost and RBIs by Sean Singleton and Danny Spolansky. Cooper Furst also laid down a bunt that brought a run in and he eventually came around to score later after a great early steal read by Spolansky, who allowed the run to score before being tagged out.
Mascarelli’s final line for Mahopac was 5.0IP 6H 7R 6ER 2BB and 5Ks.
Ketcham wins in a walk off:
Mamaroneck rallied from three runs down to tie the two-time defending champions and force extra innings. But the Storm eventually walked it off in the eighth:
