The reigning Class AA state champions in New York add more hardware to the trophy on Sunday. Albertus Magnus beat Liverpool, 67-47, to claim the NYSPHSAA Class AAA crown at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.

Julia Scott had one of her most dominant career performances in the victory. The 6-foot-3 junior posted 33 points and 22 rebounds. Riley Harold had 13 points and Maddy Zuppe added seven assists, five rebounds and four points. Freshman Sara Nezaj had seven points and five assists.

In one of the great NYSPHSAA boys basketball final four games in recent memory, Mount Sinai outlasted Byram Hills in the Class A semifinals on Saturday, 67-64, in double overtime at Visions Veterans Arena in Binghamton.

Dominic Pennzello had 23 points and five rebounds to lead Mount Sinai into the state final, which they would eventually lose to Glens Falls of Section 2 on Sunday.

Byram Hills' season came to an end with the defeat. Chris Amenedo led the two-time Section 1 champs with 16 points and seven rebounds. Brody Ceisler had 13 points and Max Miller contributed 10 points, four assists and four rebounds. Zach Efobi posted 10 points and 17 rebounds in the loss.

The Falcons are one win away.

Four players scored in double figures and Woodlands never panicked when Carle Place made its fourth quarter run, rolling to a 63-51 win in the NYSPHSAA Class B state semifinal in Binghamton on Saturday.

Aaron Woodberry led the way with 20 points, 6 blocks, 5 steals, 5 assists. Noah Cherubin scored 17 points, Jamison Stevens 13 and Sebastian Benitez 10 in the victory.

Iva Corluka posted 24 points and 12 rebounds and Leah Burriss added 10 points and eight boards as Ardsley pulled away in the second half, beating Section 6 champion Williamsville South in the NYSPHSAA Class A girls basketball semifinal in Troy on Friday.

Ardsley will play Long Island champion Wantagh for the state title on Saturday night at 7:45 pm in Troy.

The Dutchmen went into the lion's den on Thursday, facing Section 4 champion Binghamton in the city's home arena for the NYSPHSAA Class AA final four. Binghamton brought a huge crowd and rolled to a 62-49 win over Tappan Zee in the Class AA semifinals behind 22 points and six rebounds from Zubayr Griffin. Tommy Linehan scored 15 in the loss.

Scarsdale senior Jake Sussberg was voted Mr. Basketball for the 2024-25 season by the All-Lower Hudson Basketball Coaches Association at the annual banquet on March 18. Sussberg was voted by the coaches of Section 1 as one of the five members of the first team.
