Despite what the record might indicate, the Ketcham boys soccer team didn’t exactly breeze through the first six games of the season. The unbeaten start for the Storm was marked by resiliency and some late-game heroics.
Ketcham added another chapter to their hot start to 2024. Trailing by a goal on two separate occassions, the Storm found equalizers before finally surging past Mamaroneck, 4-3, in a Class AA showdown at home on Wednesday afternoon.
Cameron Welsh registered a pair of goals, and Christian Guaraca sent home the game-winner with 22 minutes to play as Ketcham improved to 5-0-2 overall and remain atop of the Section 1 Class AA Bracketology standings on GameDayOne.com.

Ketcham took a 1-0 advantage in the first half when Welsh sent home a gorgeous 25-yarder to the top right corner. Mamaroneck answered with a pair of goals before half, scoring on an Alex Berrios rebound and then, nine minutes later, a Neel Mitra goal to make 2-1 Tigers at halftime.
Outman Ait Sidi Ahmed knotted the game at 2-2 with a goal early in the second half before Mamaroneck took back the lead on a Darius Arouna score.
Ketcham applied pressure over the next 10 minutes and eventually tied the game on Welsh’s second goal. Then off a corner 90 seconds later, Guaraca slipped one through a defender and under the goalies hands for the winner.
The victory should give the Storm momentum entering next week’s showdown with rival Arlington on Oct. 1. The game will be streamed on LocalLive.tv.
