Mahopac and Lakeland/Panas Upsets Highlights Day One of Girls Lacrosse Playoffs

Mahopac and Lakeland/Panas were the only two Class B Girls Lacrosse teams with losing records this season, but both scored upset road wins to advance to Friday’s quarterfinals.

Recap: No. 10 Mahopac 13, No. 7 Clarkstown South 12

In the biggest upset of the first round of the Girls Lacrosse playoffs, No. 10 Mahopac traveled to Rockland and stunned No. 7 Clarkstown South 13-12. The Wolf Pac finished the regular season as the No. 10 seed out of a 10 team Class B field and were facing a Vikings squad that had won five consecutive games heading into the postseason.

Senior Juliana Mangione and sophomore Ashley Kock netted 3 goals each for Mahopac, while sophomore GK Amanda Carey stopped 10 shots, including her 200th career save. South was lead by Kate Frae’s 4 scores as well as a hat trick from Olivia Galati including her 200th career point.

Mahopac visits No. 2 Fox Lane for Friday’s quarterfinal matchup.

Recap: No. 9 Lakeland/Panas 15, No. 8 Brewster 10

We use the term “upset” lightly here. Lakeland/Panas may technically have been the lower seed, but the Rebels played an incredibly challenging schedule against some of the areas best programs and actually beat Brewster two weeks ago at home 12-9. Sophomore sensation Brooke Pizzarello scored an eye-popping 7 goals for the Rebels, while Fairfield commit Isabel Kocaj added 4 scores and an assist.

Lakeland/Panas travels to No. 1 Yorktown on Friday for their quarterfinal matchup.

Here’s a look at the full first round and schedule for the Class A, B and C quarterfinals. Class D first round games will be played this afternoon at higher seeds.
