Panas takes care of Tappan Zee in AA girls showdown

Two-time defending Section 1 champion Walter Panas went on the road on Tuesday and left with yet another impressive victory.

Cadence Nicholas and Sofia Tavarez, seniors and four-year starters, each scored 17 points as the Panthers overwhelmed Tappan Zee with their pressure in the first half and grinded out a 56-42 win in a matchup of Class AA top contenders in Section 1.

Katie Hofmann, another senior and veteran starter, added 14 points in the win as Panas improved to 7-0 on the season.

Tappan Zee senior Kristen Phelan, who recently signed to play at Sacred Heart University, had a game-high 20 points. Eighth-grader Adelyn Zayac addd 11 points.
