Two swings, two gems lands Eastchester in the Section 1 baseball finals

Eastchester has always been a team that has been rich with pitching this season. In the postseason, the Eagles have certainly flaunted that wealth.

Jake Warnock followed up flawless performance by Jason Ugalde in the quarterfinals with his masterpiece on Wednesday. Warnock struck out 16 batters in a three-hit shutout as No. 4 Eastchester rode a solo home run by Aidan Schultz to a 1-0 victory over No. 1 seed Mahopac in the Section 1 Class AA semifinals.

Warnock allowed only three hits and walked one in a 110-pitch effort. The only trouble he ran into was when Mahopac had a runner on second with nobody out in the second. Warnock followed with a pair of strikeouts and a pop to end the inning, and never really sweat again.

Schultz absolutely smashed his tape-measure home run in the sixth to provide the only offense for Eastchester. It followed up a similar recipe for the Eagles in the quarters against Harrison when Matt Porcello crushed a two-run homer in the first and, along with Ugalde’s shutout effort, delivered a 2-0 win at home.

Eastchester will look to ride the the momentum into the Section 1 final when it takes on Fox Lane on Saturday at 7 pm at Purchase College.
