"GameDay Guardians" of Week 2 (Sept. 20-21)

Who are the "GameDay Guardians" - the best offensive linemen - of Week 2 in the Hudson Valley region from Week 1, presented by Prolific Sports Lab

Take a deeper look at our first week of nominees:

IONA PREP

Rowan Byrne, Jayden Nicolau, George Theologis, Anthony DiNapoli, CJ Malespin

This unit set a tone from the opening drive, providing protection for QB Julian Guzman and opening up lanes for the backs all afternoon. Guzman passed for 243 yards while the ground attack amassed 316 yards, averaging 9.9 yards per carry, and running for four touchdowns. This unit is as good as you’ll find anywhere in New York State.

ARDSLEY

Evan Matt, Ryan Pecora, Shane O’Brien, Shane Speckman, Ryan Tucker

Ardsley shook off a difficult Week 1 and did it by digging in on the offensive line. The group muscled up with Nanuet and engineered a scoring drive in the fourth quarter to win it, 21-20, to even their record. They helped Ahmady Dolcine rush for 203 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries, and protected Lucas Kaplan well as he had 144 total yards passing and rushing in the win.

WESTLAKE

Anthony Nigrelli, Justin Jativa, Luan Celaj, James Miele, Charles Hannon

Make it two weeks in a row that this group ignited the Wildcats to a victory. The simply tossed around the Rye Neck defensive front from the start, leading to 278 yards rushing and five touchdowns on the ground, all in less than three quarters of work. Tough test awaits this week with Pearl River but these linemen have Westlake poised for a road win.

YONKERS FORCE

Joseph Williams, Kevin Delacruz, Israel Torres, Harry Bradley, Gabriel Joseph

One of the best stories of the early season has been Yonkers Force, which followed up last week’s road win at Ketcham by grinding out a tight win over rival Yonkers Brave on Saturday at Roosevelt. The offensive line controlled the game and allowed the talented Force skill players to get into space. When Force needed to control possession in the second half, the line took charge.

MAMARONECK

Harlan Glassman, Abelardo Hernandez, Ben Bacallao, Evan Schiron, Matt Murphy

Both sides of the line came up huge for the Tigers in Friday’s bounce-back win over North Rockland. While the defensive front allowed just 12 yards rushing total, the offensive line faced mostly stacked boxes and still managed to control the pace of the game. Mamaroneck marched for a pair of touchdown drives in the first half to take the lead and then kept finding ways to get first downs and control possession in the second half of the 20-7 victory.
