Byram Hills opens season with strong finish, beats Put Valley

Michael Bardoni admitted on Saturday that he’d never been a part of a football game that was really all that close. Byram Hills’ 2023 season was filled with far too many one-sided affairs.

The Bobcats, however, showed incredible resolve in their season-opener at home against Putnam Valley on Saturday. Tyler Marescot scored all three touchdowns and Bardoni came up with two interceptions, including the game-clincher in the final minute, to preserve a 22-21 victory.

Caden Glenn scored all three touchdowns for Putnam Valley, which significantly outgained Byram Hills on offense. But the Tigers turned the ball over four times and missed on two field goal attempts.

Marescot caught a 34-yard touchdown from quarterback Aidan Padley, returned a fumble 45 yards for a score and ran in a 3-yard touchdown in the win.

The senior running back also converted a pair of two-point conversions, highlighted by his short scamper to take the decisive lead in the third quarter. Marescot finished the day with eight catches for 88 yards receiving.
