Yorktown gets redemption through domination, beats Harrison in opener

Yorktown kicked off the 2024 football season with a statement victory, defeating Harrison 28-6 at home in a rematch of last year’s Section 1 Class A semifinal.

The Huskers’ high-powered offense, led by third-year starter quarterback Kaden Gonzalez, proved too much for Harrison, as Gonzalez delivered a standout performance to lead his team to victory.

Gonzalez, who was sharp from start to finish, completed 12 of 17 passes for 243 yards and four touchdowns. His connection with wide receiver Tyler Galante was electric throughout the game, with Galante hauling in eight catches for 167 yards and three touchdowns. The duo consistently broke down Harrison’s defense, creating mismatches and scoring opportunities.

Galante’s first touchdown came in the opening quarter, a 25-yard strike from Gonzalez that set the tone early. He followed up with two more scores, including a spectacular 45-yard reception where he outpaced two defenders.

McEnroe and the Defense Seal the Victory

Gonzalez’s other touchdown went to Brady McEnroe, who had two receptions for 59 yards, including a 40-yard TD catch in the second half that put the game out of reach for Harrison.

While Yorktown’s offense was the headline, their defense also played a crucial role in the victory. Rocco Lore was a dominant force, recording nine tackles, including four tackles for loss. He led a strong defensive front that kept Harrison’s offense at bay.

Chad Bowen and Joe Hunter each added five tackles, while Ryan Schluter contributed with five tackles, including two for loss. Defensive back Adam Yakout sealed the deal with a key interception in the third quarter, halting a promising Harrison drive.
