KDJ's Five Stars - The Best Performances from Week 0 in Section 1

Each Week during the football season, KDJ is going to be selecting Five Stars to highlight from the weekend. Check out the full video below:

Dean Palazzolo, Somers, WR

Dean Palazzolo was a breakout star in Somers’ run to another state title last season. The junior receiver went for 8 catches for 174 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Tuskers Week 0 win over NJ power Ramapo, avenging last year’s hail mary in the final seconds. Palazzolo is one of the most electric players in the Section and might just be the fastest.

Tyler Marescot, RB/DB/KR, Byram Hills

After a disappointing 2023 season, Byram Hills is looking to contend in a Class B field that’s as wide open as it’s been in years. Opening in Week 0 against Class C favorite Putnam Valley, the Bobcats took care of business 22-21 behind a little bit of everything from Tyler Marescot. Marescot scored a rushing, receiving and fumble recovery touchdown and displayed how he can impact a game in different ways.

Carson Boo Miller, QB, Rye

In what might have been the biggest Section 1 win of the weekend, Rye took down CHSAA AAA power Msgr. Farrell 31-21. The Garnets were lead by junior QB, Carson Boo Miller who was making his first varsity start. The Harvard lacrosse commit showed off his dual threat capabilities, throwing for 289 yards and 2 touchdowns to go along with 42 rushing yards and another score. With a huge Week 0 win against a very good private school program, Rye looks like they might be on a collision course with Somers for the Class A crown.

Tyler Galante, WR, Yorktown

Most of the talk going into the Class A season has centered around Somers, Rye and Harrison. Yorktown put the rest of the class on notice on Saturday with a dominant 28-6 win over Harrison. Senior QB Kaden Gonzales was brilliant as usual throwing for 4 touchdowns but the breakout star of this game was WR Tyler Galante. The senior hauled in 9 passes from Gonzales for 174 yards and 3 touchdowns and the Huskers look like a true contender in Class A.

Connor Brice, QB, Tuckahoe

Tuckahoe met up with Section 9’s Chester in a matchup that we’ve seen many times in the first round of the state playoffs. The Tigers took home a convincing 35-14 win in the Week 0 contest behind 175 yards and 5 touchdowns from Senior QB Connor Brice. Brice carried only 13 times for an incredible average of 13.5 yards per carry.
