CARMEL
Altin Shala, Aidan Whalen, Gennaro Pannullo, Al Lepore, King Mercer, Thierry Nemorin
The three-time defending Section 1 champion Rams overpowered John Jay-EF in Friday’s win at home, 45-34, behind an offensive explosion. They piled up over 500 total yards of offense as the line opened holes for Tristan Werlau (193 yards rushing) and protected new quarterback Brian McGrory (287 yards passing, 4 touchdowns).
PELHAM
Conor Bryan, Ben Pollock, Anderson Brady, Jack Kelly, Nick Pinto
The Pelicans improved to 2-0 after a dominant effort by their line (on both sides of the ball). The offense moved the ball up and down the field on Byram Hills all night in the 21-7 victory while the defensive front, which includes several offensive linemen, held Byram to under 100 yards of total offense.
BRONXVILLE
Kieran O’Neil, Matthew McSherry, Jack Pressue, Henry Frigon, Henry Scholes
The big “upset” on Friday night was actually more of an eye-opening performance by the Broncos, who are just so dominant up front. McSherry, a 6-foot-3, 290 pounds, was the headliner of the group after earning all-state honors for last year’s Class C champs. But Friday showed the Broncos are more than just a one-man show as the entire unit protected sophomore QB Theo McMurray and opened gaping holes all night for Davis Patterson and Brian Formato, who each broke long touchdown runs.
NORTH ROCKLAND
Lucas Vargas, Billy Tomas, Dom Tirri, Chauncey Lapointe, Jack Smith
The front five of North Rockland set a tone from the opening snap in Friday’s convincing win over Arlington. The unit opened up space all night for the rushing attack, which accumulated 224 total yards rushing in the 31-6 victory at home.
NANUET
Luke Joyce, Alan Thomas, Rob Spilotras, Stephen DAdamo, Hugh Drain, Nick Wrobel
The Golden Knights opened the season under first-year head coach Chris MacRobbie with a vintage Nanuet effort, controlling the line of scrimmage from start to finish and pounding the football. Nanuet spread the ball around between Vincent Duffy (83 yards), Blake Flowers (73 yards), Evan Moran (64 yards) and kept Sleepy Hollow’s speed at bay.
