Hen Hud opens with convincing win at Hastings

The Hendrick Hudson Sailors opened their 2024 football season in dominant fashion, cruising to a 42-14 victory over Hastings in a Class B showdown on Saturday. Behind a balanced offensive attack and a relentless ground game, Hen Hud set the tone early and never looked back.

Quarterback Joey Abboud showcased his dual-threat ability, guiding the Sailors’ offense with efficiency both through the air and on the ground. Abboud completed 5 of 9 passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing 11 times for 68 yards and two more scores. His ability to extend plays and create opportunities kept the Hastings defense on its heels throughout the game.

Abboud connected with Hunter Brown on a 20-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to open the scoring. Later, he found Jack Hiltsley on an 18-yard touchdown strike, capping off an impressive first half for the Sailors.

Justin Parkes was a force in the backfield, leading Hen Hud’s rushing attack with 10 carries for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Parkes displayed his explosiveness with a pair of long touchdown runs, one for 35 yards and another for 42 yards, putting the game out of reach for Hastings.

In addition to his rushing contributions, Parkes caught two passes for 40 yards and converted two two-point conversions, adding to his all-around performance.

Hen Hud’s offense didn’t rely on just one player, as multiple contributors helped fuel the Sailors’ dominance. Eric Selvaggi provided solid support in the run game with seven carries for 59 yards, keeping the Hastings defense on the field and wearing them down as the game progressed.

Hunter Brown, who caught three passes for 40 yards, added to his impressive day with a touchdown reception. Jack Hiltsley also made his mark, hauling in an 18-yard touchdown pass from Abboud.
