Iona Prep runs past rival Stepinac in bounce-back effort

Iona Prep built a non-conference schedule designed to prepare them for the daunting road to a CHSAA AAA Championship. The Gaels lost early games to perennial New Jersey power Delbarton and nationally ranked Bergen Catholic by a combined score of 65-17, but clearly learned from those experiences and rolled over rival Stepinac 42-13 on the road on Saturday.

Iona rushed for a combined 372 yards, behind Clemson OL commit Rowan Byrne. Crew Davis lead the way with three touchdowns, while Kadin Huling and QB Julian Guzman both added rushing scores as well. Guzman also threw for 171 yards and another touchdown through the air.

As good as the Gaels rushing offense was, their rush defense might have been better. The Iona defensive front held Stepinac to a stifling 35 yards the entire game.
