Kessner, Martinez, Poughkeepsie seniors lead "5 Stars of the Week" in Seniors Only Edition

Senior basketball players from around the region were honored this past week as they prepare for the postseason in Section 1 basketball. So we’ll do the same in the latest edition of the “5 Stars of the Week” presented by Veolia.

In a “Seniors Only” collection of the area’s top talent over the past week, GameDay One highlighted some of the brightest soon-to-be-graduates as many embark on the final stretch of basketball of their careers.

This week’s honorees include:

Rye four-year player Jake Kessner as he guided the Garnets to wins in their final three games, highlighted by Saturday’s upset of Tappan Zee.

James Apostolico of Putnam Valley has led his team to eight wins in nine contests, averaging over 26 points per game in that stretch.

A streaking Carmel squad enters the postseason as a threat in Class AA thanks to point guard Aiden White, who has been terrific.

Julian Martinez has North Rockland thinking Gold Ball as an underdog entering the Class AAA playoffs.

And finally, we tip the cap to the Poughkeepsie basketball squad – led by senior Savion Nesbitt and Kaiden Birdson — which will enter the playoffs without coach Cody Moffett following disciplinary actions.
