New QB Guzman has Iona Prep eyeing CHSFL title run

Iona Prep was forced to pivot this summer. And the Gaels just might have uncovered one of the area’s most dynamic quarterbacks in the process.

When all-state QB Joey Gaston announced his intentions to leave the school in July, Iona Prep turned to Julian Guzman, a Tarrytown native and baseball standout who committed to play at the University of Maryland. Guzman has never taken a varsity snap at quarterback.

However, in a very short time, Guzman has showcased arm strength, accuracy and mobility that no quarterback in the county might be able to match.

Guzman leads a Gaels squad blessed with returning skill talent, led by running backs Crew Davis and Kadin Huling, receivers Steven Dowdy Jr., Matt Davitt and Terron Johnson. And an offensive lined, headlined by Clemson commit Rowan Byrne.
