Official Section 1 Girls Soccer brackets released

The official Section 1 Girls Soccer playoff seeds were released yesterday and first round matches begin this Friday. GameDay One has you covered with schedules, scores and updated brackets nightly as well as photo and video coverage across all of our digital platforms.

Here’s a look at the girls soccer brackets by class:

Class AAA

No. 1 seed Arlington looks to repeat as Class AAA section champs, but is coming off of losses to Rye and Somers to end their regular season. No. 2 seed Scarsdale ended last season with a disappointing loss to North Rockland in the semifinals, but tied Arlington earlier this season and looks up to the task of a run to a title. Last year’s runner-up, North Rockland lost to both top seeds earlier this year but is on a 9-1 run in their last 10 matches.

Contenders: Arlington, Scarsdale, North Rockland

Our Pick: Scarsdale

To no one’s surprise, Albertus Magnus sits at the top of the Class AA playoff bracket in the No. 1 seed. Following a disappointing loss to Rye in the section final last year, the Falcons have absolutely dominated Section 1 opponents, going 10-0 and not allowing a single goal. While Albertus is the clear favorite, the teams sitting in the 2 thru 5 seeds all have had strong showings against top competition and seem capable of making it to a final. Greeley and Tappan Zee sit at No. 2 and 3 respectively, but No. 4 seed Yorktown’s only loss this season was to Arlington in a 2-1 match and No. 5 Ursuline took down Scarsdale in their regular season finale.

Contenders: Albertus Magnus, Ursuline, Yorktown, Greeley, Tappan Zee

Our Pick: Albertus Magnus

Class A

This might be the toughest bracket to call in girls soccer this postseason. Pleasantville secured the No. 1 seed with a 15-0-1 record on the season, while defending state champ Rye sits in the No. 2 spot at 14-1-1. The Garnets only loss all year was to Class AAA John Jay-EF. Pearl River and Somers in the 3 and 4 seeds are also teams that are absolutely capable of winning a title. Somers played perhaps the toughest schedule in Class A and came out with results against larger schools like Arlington, Scarsdale, JJEF, Tappan Zee and Greeley.

Contenders: Rye, Pleasantville, Somers, Pearl River

Our Pick: Somers

Class B

No. 1 Blind Brook (11-4-1) and No.2 Bronxville (10-5-1) did not face each other in the regular season and look like the favorites to meet in the Class B title game. Bronxville looks to have the easiest path, with a semifinal matchup likely with No. 3 Dobbs Ferry, who the Broncos shut out twice this season. The Trojans would be looking at a matchup with either No. 4 Briarcliff or No. 5 Putnam Valley in the final four. Briarcliff took down Blind Brook earlier this season, so don’t be surprised if we don’t see the top seed in the finals.

Contenders: Bronxville, Blind Brook, Briarcliff, Dobbs Ferry

Our Pick: Bronxville

Class C

Tuckahoe has been the clear favorite in Class C all season, with their only losses coming to Class B or higher programs.
