Monday, May 20
Class AAA
No. 8 North Rockland at No. 1 Ketcham
Time: 4:30 p.m.
Stream: Watch on LocalLive
Preview: The reigning state champion Storm of Ketcham surge into the postseason following a stellar final month of the season, which included a 10-1 win over North Rockland at home. Why should the playoff game be any different? North Rockland is always dangerous despite their late-season struggles and enter this with absolutely no pressure compared to RCK. The Storm, however, will have ace Riley Weatherwax available and should move on.
KDJ Pick: Ketcham 8, North Rockland 0
No. 6 Scarsdale (8-9) at No. 3 John Jay-EF
Time: 4:30 p.m.
Stream: Watch on LocalLive
Preview: John Jay-EF showed some serious guts late in the season to earn the No. 3 seed in the playoffs and enters the tournament a confident group. They host a Scarsdale team that stumbled late, losing three of its final five games. Jay is anxious for a semifinal round matchup with rival Arlington and should not get tripped up here.
KDJ’s Pick: John Jay-EF 9, Scarsdale 3
Class AA
No. 10 Clarkstown South (9-12) at No. 2 Fox Lane (14-7)
Time: 4:30 p.m.
Stream: Watch on LocalLive
Preview: Clarkstown South cruised in the first round of the playoffs and should have ace Kyle Sperring ready to go on the road. The second-seeded Foxes, meanwhile, needed nine innings to hold off No. 15 Carmel. Fox Lane ace Tyler Renz, a St. John’s commit, should be available to throw despite coming on Saturday in relief for 48 pitches.
KDJ’s Pick: Fox Lane 7, Clarksown South 3
No. 5 Harrison (13-8) at No. 4 Eastchester (13-8)
Time: 4:30 p.m.
Stream: Watch on LocalLive
Preview: These former league rivals didn’t meet in the regular season but mirror each other with power pitching and deep lineups. Neither had to sweat (or use their top pitchers) in the first round to get here. The Huskies will likely turn to ace Marco Citro, who has been brilliant all season. Harrison’s bats have come alive of late after managing four runs total in a four-game losing streak. Eastchester has lost only once at home this season.
KDJ’s Pick: Harrison 4, Eastchester 3
No. 8 Suffern (10-11) at No. 1 Mahopac (13-6-1)
Time: 4:30 pm.
Stream: Watch on LocalLive
Preview: While the Wolf Pac have the benefit of a first round bye, this is an extremely difficult quarterfinal matchup. Suffern played primarily against Class AAA opponents this season and seven of their 11 losses were by three runs or less. Rest and being at home is a major edge for Mahopac, which also faced a schedule of large schools.
KDJ’s Pick: Mahopac 8, Suffern 5
Class A
No. 5 Rye (13-8) at No. 4 Panas (15-6)
Time: 5 p.m.
Stream: Watch on LocalLive
Preview: Defending champion Panas faces a Rye team that needed extra innings to defeat No. 12 Ardsley in Saturday’s opening round – as well as use ace Shepp Griffiths in relief. Griffiths should still be available today but likely not for the entire contest. That’s an edge for a Panas team that routed Byram Hills 11-3 on Saturday for its seventh win in nine games. The Panthers have scored 76 runs combined in those victories. If the offense clicks, they are as good as any team in the bracket. But the Garnets have something special in this veteran team and have momentum off Saturday’s win.
KDJ’s Pick: Rye 5, Panas 4
