Section 1 Softball: State Playoff Brackets, Results, Schedules

Four of the Five Section 1 Softball champions have played their first state playoff game, with only Tuckahoe receiving a bye into tomorrow’s Class C Regional Final against Section 9’s Pine Plains. Here are results from this week’s subregional action:

Class AAA Subregional North Rockland 1, Pine Bush 0 (9 innnings): North Rockland pitcher Tara Murphy followed up her 8 inning performance in the Section 1 title game with 9 shutout innings and the game-winning run in the 9th. The sophomore walked only one batter, while striking out 9 and spreading 5 hits over the 9 inning gem.

Class AA Subregional Minisink Valley 5, Harrison 2: Minisink Valley would jump on the Huskies early, building a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Harrison wouldn’t go away quietly though, as they put together a bases loaded, no out rally in the 7th. A clutch double play by the Warriors would end the Huskies hopes of advancing, but this was without a doubt a turning point for Harrison softball as the school’s first ever softball Section championship.

Class A Subregional Marlboro 5, Pearl River 2: Pearl River ace Kiera Luckie held Marlboro to no runs and two hits leading through 5 innings, but the Dukes would explode for 6 hits and 5 runs in the 6th inning. Marlboro would be able to hold the lead despite a late push by the Pirates, including an RBI single by Cat Arnold in the 7th to close the lead to 3.

Class B Subregional Albertus Magnus 3, Highland 2: After several disappointing defeats in Subregional play, Albertus Magnus is heading to their first ever Regional Final after a thrilling 3-2 walk off win over Highland. Junior pitcher Teagan Dwyer was brilliant on the mound, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out 10. The Falcons lost a 2-0 lead in the 6th inning, but were able to manufacture a run in the bottom of the 7th, with Dwyer playing the hero at the plate as well, singling in the game winning run.

Class C Subregional: Tuckahoe (Bye)
