Stepinac opens season with a decisive win over Lincoln in Magee's coaching debut

AJ Magee admitted he didn’t sleep much heading into Saturday’s season opener.

The first-year Stepinac head coach felt the weight of not only taking over the program he grew up watching — and following the legendary footsteps of Mike O’Donnelly – but also focusing on getting the Crusaders a first win they desperately needed.

Magee should be able rest easy this Labor Day Weekend. Stepinac rolled past PSAL powerhouse Lincoln of Brooklyn, 40-14, in the opener.

John Smith ran for 135 yards on 13 carries, including two touchdowns, and first-year quarterback Jahmai McNeil threw a pair of touchdowns in the win.

Stepinac scored just two plays into the season on a 60-yard touchdown run by Smith. Smith later punched in a short touchdown.
