Somers has owned the state the last two years. Now they own a piece of history.
The Tuskers captured their third consecutive NYPSHAA title on Friday night, beating Whitesboro of Section 3 at the JMA Dome in Syracuse by a convincing 51-27 margin.
Somers (13-0) became only the second Section 1 program to win three straight state titles and the first in New York history to claim three in a row at the Class AA or A level.

Miguel Iglesias, the third different Somers player to quarterback his team to a state title during the stretch, accounted for four rushing touchdowns in the win.
The senior, who’ll play lacrosse at Notre Dame, ran for 100 yards on 17 carries and passed for 125 yards on 10-of-15 completions. He also recorded an interception on defense.
Dean Palazzolo and Mason Kelly each accounted for over 100 yards of offense and a touchdown for the Tuskers, who intercepted five passes and forced a fumble that Logan Ruby returned for a score in the second quarter.
Somers converted five of Whitesboro’s six turnovers into points. Will Marcus and Jaron Fulkner each had five tackles and Ben Harris and Dean Barlanti each had four.
Ruby intercepted a pass, as did Bret Kennedy, Tim Monahan and Ryan Brush. Gavin Kelly drilled a 47-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter.
