Top point guards Carbuccia, Tyler and Burrell shine this week to make KDJ's Five Stars

Point guards lead the way this week in KDJ’s Five Stars for the boys side. Stepinac’s Danny Carbuccia, Mount Vernon’s Tavien Tyler and Mamaroneck’s Brandon Burrell are all very different players, but each did what they needed to do in order to get wins for their respective teams over the weekend. Here’s the full video and list of this week’s honorees:

Brandon Burrell, Junior, Mamaroneck

The emergence of the junior is a huge reason why the Tigers are sitting at 10-0. In this weekend’s 64-50 Slam Dunk Showcase win over Rye, Burrell was everything you want from your point guard, scoring 14 points with 6 assists and only 1 turnover.

Tavien Tyler, Senior, Mount Vernon

The Knights have been busy on the road over the last week, taking wins at St. Joes (NJ), Hill House (CT) and Holy Trinity (Long Island) and Tyler carried Mount Vernon to three wins, averaging over 20ppg in that span.

Danny Carbuccia, Senior, Stepinac

Stepinac edged out rival Iona Prep in a 64-60 OT thriller to cap off the Slam Dunk Showcase this weekend at the County Center. Jasiah Jervis took home MVP honors with 24 points, but it was the leadership and steadiness of Carbuccia that helped guide the Crusaders to a gritty second half comeback over the Gaels. The UMass commit finished with 9 points, 9 assists, and a key basket in OT.

Aaron Woodberry, Junior, Woodlands

Woodlands has a rising star on their hands in junior swingman Aaron Woodberry, our next Five Star performer for this week. Woodberry was virtually unstoppable, dropping 24 points in a 66-57 win over Peekskill at the Slam Dunk Showcase this weekend.

Luke Lawler, Senior, Briarcliff

Luke Lawler of Briarcliff is our final Five Star recipient for this week. The senior carried the Bears with 32 points and 11 rebounds in a 78-51 win over Croton-Harmon last Friday
