Girls Flag Football Semis set; Stars from the Weekend

The four semifinalists in the Division I and Division II playoffs in Section 1 Girls Flag Football are set following Saturday’s quarterfinals. The matchups:

Here’s a look back at the weekend’s quarterfinals:

Quarterfinal Recaps: Division I Quarterfinals

Scarsdale 27, Horace Greeley 14: The top-seeded Raiders were paced by standout quarterback Ivy Boockvar, who had a hand in all four touchdowns. Boockvar ran in the first score and then set up a throwback pass to Lily Tessler, who found Seka Silvjanovski for the touchdown. Boockvar hit Chloe Paquin for the next Scarsdale score and then Boockvar caught a touchdown from Tessler to seal the win.

Mahopac 19, Carmel 7: The WolfPac knocked off their rival behind QB Faith Poniros, who passed for 144 yards and two touchdowns. Gianna Dolano caught both touchdowns and Gianna Fava had 99 yards, ran for a touchdown and had an interception and five tackles on defense. Isabella Fava had five tackles and Maria Garofalo intercepted a passes for Mahopac.

New Rochelle 19, Yonkers City 6: Brianne Foley caught two touchdowns and also passed for another as the Huguenots won their first ever playoff game in their inaugural season. Grace Ziogas and Jocelyn Hernandez each threw a score and Nyah Rosado caught one in the victory.

Yorktown 7, Clarkstown 6: The Huskers survived thanks to another strong effort from quarterback Kaitlyn Judge. The senior passed for 158 yards, a touchdown and the game-winning extra point. Both the TD and the extra point went to Mia Chee. Judge ran for 55 yards while Alina Rivera had 53 yards receiving and Eva Monaco added 50. Stephanie Douglas led the defense with seven tackles, Sofia Gentile had five and Drita Tinaj had three sacks. Monaco added an interception in the win.


Quarterfinal Recaps: Division II Quarterfinals

Brewster 46, Byram Hills 6: The top-seeded and defending champion Bears had no trouble at home. Ava Fagin made sure of it, passing for three touchdowns and returning an interception for a score. Sienna Santiago scored three times – on a reception, a rush and a interception return – and Shay Roowood added a receiving touchdown and seven tackles on defense. Kiley Brooks had a touchdown catch and an INT for a score. Sandra Estrada pulled eight flags on defense and Juliet Bryggman intercepted a pass in the win.

Eastchester 27, Peekskill 6: Eagles standout Michelle Tiso completed 19 of 25 passes for 256 yards and four touchdowns as Eastchester avenged a loss to Peekskill in the final game of the regular season. Alexa Keller caught five passes for 119 yards and a touchdown and Deanna Biancardi had five receptions for 61 yards and two scores. Kayla Comizo also had a touchdown catch while Shyli James led the defense with eight tackles.

Lakeland 27, Somers 0: The second-seeded Hornets shut out Somers in a strong all-around performance. Quarterback Nichole Lkuljic led the way, completing 10 of 16 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 83 yards. Gabby Santini ran for 115 yards and a touchdown and caught a couple passes for 45 yards and a score. Emily Hahn caught four balls for 120 yards and a touchdown. Riley Waters and Grace Nugent led the defense with an interception each.

Tappan Zee 31, Hen Hud 14: The Dutchies rolled into the semifinals behind another stellar effort from two-way star Eve Girardi. The quarterback tossed four touchdowns while intercepting two passes on defense, one she returned for a score. All of that happened in the opening 13 minutes of the game. Ella Sabatini, Alyssa Sanchez, Nina Vasquez, and Bella Vasquez each caught touchdowns for Tappan Zee.
