Pearl River kicks off Week 1 with decisive win at home

Thursday night football came to Pearl River in the home opener. The Pirates continued their strong start to 2024, rolling past Hen Hud to improve to 2-0.

T.J. Lanese threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as Pearl River handled Hen Hud, 42-13, in a Class B matchup.

Anton Omundsen ran for 287 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries in a breakout performance. Jack Whalen added another on the ground, and Anthony Graziano and Bobby Gallagher each caught scores in the victory.

“Playing on Thursday was definitely a challenge with the short work week,” said Pearl River coach Mike Oliva, whose team beat rival Tappan Zee in Week 0.

“Even though we got a nice win against TZ, we didn’t play our best football which is expected in a Week 0 game. Even though it was a short week, we had a couple of really good practices and were able to execute our game plan against Hen Hud. The goal is to keep getting better each week.”

Josh Tobacco had 13 tackles and Danny Fitzgerald added 10 in the win. Brendan Carlacci intercepted a pass on defense for Pearl River, and Liam Reilly, Bryan Dorvilier, and Ryan Guzman all had a sack..

Justin Parkes sparked the Hen Hud offense, breaking a 73-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Joey Abboud had the other touchdown for the Sailors, connecting with Hunter Kennedy Brown on a 22-yard strike to break a scoreless tie late in the first quarter.

Pearl River will travel to Pleasantville next week.
