The Gameday One Soccer Sheet: Trying to make sense of Class AA playoff picture

If you look at the full Class AA Boys Soccer standings on Gameday One, you’ll see 10 teams with winning records, no unbeatens, and very little clarity as far as who are the favorites to make deep playoff runs. The non-conference schedule is winding down and the next four weeks should help separate the contenders from the pretenders. This class was really tough to break down, but here are our predictions of where we think things will end up based on the last few weeks of play:

Championship Matchup: Mahopac vs. Tappan Zee

Mahopac sits at the top of the Soccer playoff standings for Class AA at the moment, and have looked dominant since an opening day 6-3 loss at Somers. Oliver Filip has provided consistent offense and GK Esteban Sanchez has had multiple double digit save matches.

Two-time defending Rockland POTY Brady Jacobs has Tappan Zee rolling as they move into league play. The Dutchmen handed Lohud No. 7 Rye a stunning 6-0 defeat last week, and their only losses come to Class A favorites Ardsley and Byram Hills.

Poised to make some noise: Greeley, Peekskill, Harrison, Yorktown, Fox Lane

Let me make this clear, any one of these teams is capable of winning the Class AA crown. Greeley’s only loss this season was to Mahopac and the Quakers have scored 12 goals in their last two matches. Peekskill has only lost to Class A leaders Ardsley and Somers. Harrison currently sits in 8th, but is unbeaten in their last 6 matches, with 5 wins and a tie to defending Class A state champ Byram Hills. This will be a fun postseason to watch.

Matchup to watch down the stretch: Yorktown vs. Mahopac, 10/1 and 10/21

Yorktown currently sits at 10th in the playoff standings, while Mahopac is in the No. 1 spot. The two remaining matchups between these rivals will play a HUGE role in postseason seeding and could flip the entire class on it’s head if Yorktown were to sweep. We love chaos, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see a little here.
